JJ finally gave me this series to watch. A japanese drama series. Normally, a Japanese drama series would be comical like My Boss My Hero or Gokusen or Concerto Love that I watched but this One Litre of Tears (Ichi Rittoru No Namida) is the one that made me cry. If my dad saw me crying like that, he'd surely ask "why cry cry? Got ppl pass away is't?" That's the normal reaction that anyone in my family gets whenever someone saw them crying. Well, it's what made my family more typical than other family. Crying makes you look weak but heck, I don't care. Anyway, SOMEONE REALLY DIED, just in the movie though. Hahaha..
It is a movie based on a true story, based on a diary written by a girl who was 14-15 years old when she found out that she had a spinocerebral degeneration disease (SCD). Incurable disease that made her brain shrinks and then she'll eventually lose her psychomotor control and die.
It's about how she faces her everyday life, having to stand at other people's glares, having to know that her psychomotor control is getting weaker and weaker each day, not being able to talk properly or at all and not being able to walk at all one day, and how her strong she is in facing the disease. I think the strongest person would be her family, especially her mother. For the girl, it's the hardship of dealing with the inconvenience but for her mother, it's the fact that she will have to face the death of her daughter earlier than she had expected and guiding and giving her strength all the time. Her family have to take good care of her and give her strength to live on rather than just die mentally and emotionally.
I respect her mother. A very nice movie to watch! Apparently one of my friend's cousin has this disease. But his mother concentrates more on her work. Well, what can I say? Different family has different way of showing their love and care.
Self Talk:
I guess when you expect that you'll die soon, not being able to do anything with your limbs makes you want to die just right then, huh? Giving up and just let things slip. Euthanasia might be in your thoughts. Well, I've put myself in her position and I thought about it as well, but this girl in the movie really let me know that life is worth living and we should appreciate everything that we have right now. Appreciate it that you can walk, can talk, can eat and not choke easily, can breathe.
I listened to a tape about Buddhist Psychology by Jack Kornfield. In it, it talks about Wanting and Grieving. He mentioned that he knew a woman who found out that she will only live for a few month. He asked her,"What do you want in this life?" And her reply was,"I want to live. I just want to be..here." From here, you can see how ignorant we are by wanting fame and wealth and ignoring the utmost important thing which is LIFE.
This movie is a must watch!
